Mental Health Alternatives Thinkspot

Okay, we've finally started this blog. Let's talk about the current dismal state of our mental health system, how we feel about it, what we've done about it, and what we can do about it.

My name is K.C. and when I went through the mental health system about twenty years ago, I became outraged by the lack of truth and fairness in psychiatric thought and practice. I organized for years. So have many others--both ex-patients and mental health professionals. The funny (or not so funny) thing is that it seems that the mental health system has not changed too much in the last fifteen years or so. Do others share my opinion?

William Glasser, M.D, is a psychiatrist who believes that psychiatry is a pseudo-science based on a false presumption of brain disorder in those who are emotionally/mentally "off", and that medication is the wrong way to treat mental crises, even those such as schizophrenia and depression. He states that it is the medical/pharmaceutical complex' drive for dollars and their multi-million dollar media blitzing which keeps the misguided and dangerous psychiatric establishment in place. What do you think?
